Implementing Ban on Plastics: Solutions from Citizens

The Law is very clear on the matter. Manufacture and use of Plastics with a thickness below 20 microns is prohibited all over the country by the Union Government under the Environment Protection Act (EPA). All State Governments too were expected to make suitable implementation arrangements for this purpose.

In MP the Environment Department too declared the Pollution Control Board and all Collectors of Districts and Municipal officers as authorised officers to implement this directive as per teh provisions of the EPA.

But still plastics <20 microns continue to be used!

I remember that in Andaman and Nicobar islands even the boatmen will not let you enter their boats unless they have physically frisked you to see that you do not have any plastics on you. Why? They do not want their lovely corals to be destroyed by plastics which will just stick to them and destroy the beauty of the corals and the pleasures of snorkelling and scuba diving and other sports that provide them succor.

I seek to know from our dear citizens what steps we in the Government should take to ensure that this ban is properly implemented. I can assure you that the will- power is there to make this successful! We will look at your suggestions most seriously!

Citizens pl come forwards and join us to implement the ban on cheap plastics and help us keep our lakes and roads and cities clean!!!
