Should Big Business Houses be Encouraged into Retail Food Sector?
Kamal Nath

Initially there was a great hue and cry about Reliance Fresh stores, Shivraj was shouting against them. Uma Bharti was ready to sit in dharna. But suddenly they are all over. Does it not mean the market needs them? Has the market price been paid to greedy politicians who were shouting only to extract the right price? There is a market price for both commodities and politicians?

Yes, if the Pvt retail food sector enters into some kind of agreement with the farmers, then the farmers get to sell their product directly to the pvt retailers for which they may get good price & the middle men(dalal in hindi)may not exploit the farmers as it is being done presently.

Kamal Nath probably has no nationalistic or altruistic interest in promoting FDI in the retail sector. But by default and sheer gut-feeling he has got it right. That is liberal arts and public school education for you.

I disagree with Shehla

We need a modern economic approach; the traditional swadeshi model is a glaring failure-Kamal Nath has seen the world, Shivraj has not even seen India

yes!! they should be encouraged as it would push down prices. at the end of the day consumer should walk away with the best deal possibe. that is what an open economy is all about.
