My heart is dancing ...my eyes are twinkling ..and i'm feeling like the cat's whiskers !! This solemn , selfish 'Life' suddenly seems so simple and delightful !
Life is beautiful...Life is strange...
Life is 'music' ..with the sweetest refrain !
You know what has made my world so tra-la-la-laa and spontaneously enchanted ? Well !...it was a cutest bunch of 8 or 9 octogenarians I came across in my walking track !! With my music on my phone on , I kept taking my 'rounds' in the park.......and my fast steps kept faltering as I crossed these bunch of adorable oldies perched on a bench and on a tree log, chatting nineteen -to-the-dozen ! I let my spontaneous self take over the prudent one , and I gently asked -- " Sir , would you mind if I take a picture of you all?"
A short , intense pregnant silence ....and then the tallest of them grinned at me , looking at his pals , and said --"Why NOT ??" ...and I happily clicked two three pics of them.
What followed sort of startled me and mildly alarmed me , as I was bombarded with questions. "Aap ye photo apne akhbaar me chhap deejiye, par zara aur baatein bhi likhiye'...(You publish this picture in your paper , but write some meaningful stuff too !)..and another stormed at me a trifle belligerently --- 'Tell me , thrice we have put the garbage bins in this park , each time the youngsters chuck the filth all around them !"
Gosh ! These darling oldies were thinking I was a journalist ! I gently pacified them , telling them that I was a doctor , who loved writing blogs and poetry. They too were taken aback for confronting me . Our names were exchanged , and it turned out that two of them had taught mu husband Dr Salil Kumar in Convent school ! They fondly remembered my older brother-in-law who had studied with Jaya Bhaduri ! One Mr. Shukla was extremely keen on meeting my husband , "Woh itne busy doctor bann gaye , will he meet me ?" Of course I heartily invited them to come over sometime. Another one , around 90, knew my Father-in-law well , and spoke of him with affection and highest esteem, I felt so proud ....never having met my father-in-law who unfortunately had passed away before i got married.
I returned to my Clinic and to my patients ....and I think I was beaming happily at all my patients..;)
See ? The world is sooooo beautiful. and I will keep my solemn promise to these gentlemen , and write a blog sometime soon on 'basic cleanliness concept' ...sadly lacking in today's youth. 'Swachh--abhyaan' blah --blah--blah !!! Modiji ...kabhi inn buzurgon se miliyega !!
Feeling like a pampered 'Beti' ..of these cutest octogenarians !
Dr Rashmi Kumar
