Amar: Jaya Prada to continue to be SP's candidate from Rampur

The Samajwadi Party on Saturday said Jaya Prada will continue to be its candidate from Rampur constituency despite senior party leader  Mohammad Azam Khan's displeasure over SP's decision to renominate the actor-turned-politician from the seat.

"Jaya Prada is the sitting MP from Rampur and has been fielded again and there would be no change in it... she would contest and also win the seat," Samajwadi Party National General Secretary Amar Singh told reporters here.

Singh, against whom Khan had been levelling various charges, refused to take any question on their strained ties.

He said that the party had declared a list of 75 candidates from 80 Lok Sabha seats in Uttar Pradesh.

He also rubbished the reports that the SP has left Ghaziabad constituency to help BJP President Rajnath Singh, who would be contesting from the seat, and Mathura for RLD President Ajit Singh's son Jayant Chaudhary.

"On the contrary, SP candidates in Ghaziabad and Mathura would help Rajnath and Jayant and that is what we do not want," Singh said, adding "the party has left the Rae Bareli and Amethi seats only out of respect for Congress candidates Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi".
