Amar Singh prevented from addressing anti-Mayawati rally
SP leader Amar Singh was today prevented from addressing an anti-Mayawati rally here by district authorities who turned him back from the airport.?

"Singh and his aides were not allowed to come outside the airport in apprehension of disturbance in the city," deputy inspector general of police K K Tiwari said.?

About 500 SP workers were arrested during demonstration in different parts of the district, police said.?

SP general secretary Amar Singh and Rajya Sabha MP Jaya Bachchan along with party's candidate for Gorakhpur Parliamentary seat Manoj Tiwari were not allowed to address a gathering in Gorakhpur, party leader Ram Gopal Yadav told.

The ruling BSP, however, staged a rally at the collectorate campus here which was addressed by party's Gorakhpur nominee for Lok Sabha elections Vinay Shankar Tiwari and other district level leaders.?

The rally was held peacefully amid tight security, the police said.?

The SP and other opposition parties had announced statewide protests against UP chief minister Mayawati on her 53rd birthday on Thursday.
