Paswan vouches for Muslim reservation
Strongly batting for reservation for Muslims, Union Minister Ram Vilas Paswan on Saturday said quota for the community in various fields is not unconstitutional.?

"Muslims should be given reservation. It is as per the Constitutional norms. Article 15(4) of the Constitution allows reservation for socially and economically backward people.?

"When Sachchar Committee report says Muslims are socially and economically backward, they should get reservation, "Paswan said, addressing an international convention of American Federation of Muslims of Indian Origin (AFMI) in Agra.?

Seeking to bring Dalits and minorities on one platform, he said, "The condition of Dalits and Minorities is equal."?

Decrying events which he dubbed as "a well-planned conspiracy against Muslims", Paswan said, "Government should also take steps to clear doubts."?

Referring to the BJP's demands for immediate hanging of Afzal Guru, Paswan wondered how can the turn of a man whose number is 27th in mercy petition before the President come before other cases are decided. "I told the Home Minister to bring the reality before the people," he added.?

Condemning incidents of Gujarat riots and anti-Christian violence in Madhya Pradesh, Karnataka and Chhattisgarh, he said, "Some political elements try to create distance among various communities."?

He lauded AFMI's work to promote education among Muslims.?

AFMI gave awards to ten top Muslim students in its 17th convention on Education and Gala Award Programme.?
